How to Clean a Gaming Chair Properly

Do you tend to spend a lot of time gaming?

Maybe you’ve been using that chair for an extended period of time and now you’re starting to think that it’s been a while since you cleaned it.

Or maybe you’ve been wiping it down with some cloth but you don’t know if that’s really getting it clean.

Well, we’re here to help you out. It’s actually not going to be too difficult to do once you know a little more about your chair.

Gaming Chair Cleaning 101

First, take a look at your chair and decide just what type of chair it actually is.

Did you spring for the high-quality PU leather?

Did you get PVC leather or fabric?

Maybe you have a basic mesh chair.

Each of these materials is going to clean a little differently, so we’ll take a look at that as well.

Cleaning PU/PVC Leather

This is a super simple process because all you really need is a microfiber cloth and you can wipe down the chair.

Dusting it over first is the best way to go and from there you can get a cloth that’s dipped in a mixture of water and dish soap.

This will help to remove some of the dirt and debris that can get on the chair.

Make sure you’re carefully blotting or gently rubbing the chair when you use this product, don’t scrub at it too vigorously or you could damage the surface.

Cleaning Mesh/Fabric

With these chairs, you’ll want to actually vacuum the chair before you start cleaning anything else.

Because of the material of these chairs, they’re actually going to absorb different types of dust, dirt, and debris and you definitely don’t want that sitting around inside the chair and leading to who knows what in there.

You can use a standard vacuum attachment with a mesh chair (there are not many places for anything to hide) and a brush attachment for fabric (anything can get deep in there).

If you have stains in the fabric or mesh you want to take a look at how it’s recommended you care for the chair.

If your chair has an ‘S’ it means that you can use a solvent cleaner. If it has a ‘W’ then you need a water-based cleaner.

So, with a mesh or fabric chair, you can use whichever your chair says and then make sure that you use a brush to scrub into the stains so that you can really get them out.

These stains tend to get pretty ground in with these chairs.

Don’t Forget Your Accessories!

You should make sure that you also clean any of the accessories that go along with your chair.

Wipe down the armrests, the frame, the base and anything else with a mixture of dish soap and water, then dry them off with a cloth.

This gets off any dirt and debris but also prevents that moisture from sitting for too long.

You’ll also want to clean the casters of your chair, which are the wheels moving you around.

These can get pretty dirty, so vacuum them out and then clean with a cloth and wipe down with rubbing alcohol.

With this process, you’re going to be ready to go in no time and your chair is going to be looking a whole lot better.

It may not seem like a big deal, but it’s definitely going to help.

Hello everyone! My name's Rob and I write for The Game Chair. No, I'm not secretly Gordon Freeman, but Half-Life 2 is one of my all-time favorite games. I will never forgive Valve for what they did in not ending the series properly. Maybe we'll get Half-Life 3 someday? Who knows. Anyway, I write about gaming product reviews, general gaming gear tips, and anything else I can think of that's game-related. Thanks for checking out the site!
